I have  been running Debian sid  on a sata  disk.  The m/b is  MSI K8V
neo. The kernel  is 2.6.16. The install was using  a Ubuntu Hoary disk
about 18 months back, and  changed over to debian using aptitude (this
is NOT recommended for newbies).
