language coding conflict??

Hi!!

I am in the Malayalam localisation team; and we are just beginning
our work.

The translation HOWTO requires creation  of a directory which would be
named kdebase/i10n/ml in our case.

However,  in kdebase-3.2.0/l10n/ml  already exists,  and  the language
seems to be  Mali.

At http://www.unicode.org/onlinedat/languages.html,  the code allotted
to Malayalam is ML, and Mali is not listed. Ditto for
http://lcweb.loc.gov/standards/iso639-2/englangn.html  (did I miss
something?)

What is wrong, and where??
