Well to start with I am sending a list of a I suggest that we use a three column format for discussions like this. <word> <transliteration> <malayalam> Here is an example of the format normal sadharana ?????? This way, even those who have ancient/non-free/nonstandard rendering systems can understand what is there in the third column by looking at the second. I am also aware that there is a iTrans (or something like that) which maps upper and lower case letters. Thus, ?????? would be represented using something like saaDHaraNNa or similar. IMHO, this would be a right-royal PITA. So, we will stick to simple alpha representation. But, do remember to think of ambiguous spelling, like `manam' as in `sky' and not `smell'. In such situations, please clarify. So, here is my 2 paisa worth. > 1.configuration chitta ????? is the word used in GNOME. > 2.custom- Surely, we did not mean ????? (aacharam) or ?????? (chunkam) here. So, what is the context? If it is customise, kramam (or should it be cramam as in `cram') ????? Btw, should we use it ?+ ? + ? or ? + ? + ?? > 3.normal- sadharana ?????? > 4.general- pothu ???? > 5.add- Hmm. what is the context? koottuka ??????? and cherkuka ?????????? Depending on the context. > 6.background-=20 paschathalam ???????? (hmmmm..... mark it fuzzy) 7.foreground- if this the antonym of background, should'nt it be poorvathalam ???????????? 8.shadow chhaya ??? > color-നിഴല് Was this supposed to be ???? (niram)? ???????? (varnam) is another option= =2E > 7.crash-നശിച്ചൂ=20 takarcha ???????? > 8.application-പ്രോഗ്രറ&= #3390;മ് gee ... as in `application for a job'? If so, how about ??????? > 9.configure-=20 literal translation - rooparekha ?????? > 10.documentation-=20 A literal translation - rekha (???) will not help here. how about `vivaranam' ?????? > 11.comments Unless you mean those words in program which are not supposed to be=20 visible to the compiler or user, we could have used 'vyakhyanam' ?????????? but for those invisible words, well .... > 12.manager(as in login/file manager)- karyasthan ??????????? (fuzzy) > 13.display- I do not have a translation here, but `screen' will not do, coz. on=20 posix system, you do a `ctrl+alt+F*', and you get a different display on = the same screen. > 14.select(i feel transliterated word isfine)-സെലŎ= 9;്റ്റു് What is wrong with ?????????????? or its variants? > 15.editor-=20 ?????????? is out of question ... > 20.documents- See 10 above. > The above text was written in utf8. If anyone finds trouble reading You can see for yourselves what I can see here. Maybe, your mailer=20 converted the message to 7bit ascii? PS:- 1. can you sort the English words next time? 2. Is it possible to use HEX notation so that we can look up directly in = the unicode chart? Alternately, is there a sensible way of converting=20 &XXXX into a unicode code?
