  Subject: INSTRUCTIONS TO PSP FOR ORIENTATION OF NEWLY ADMITTED VU 
  STUDENTS (Bachelor, Master, Diploma & Professional Courses) Spring 2006. 
   
   
              
  We would like to thank you for your cooperation in the admission process.  I would now like to bring the following instructions in your kind notice to be followed by all Private Sector Partners (PSPs):
   
    
   The Private Sector Partners (PVC) is responsible to arrange two-day orientation course for newly admitted student for a small fee. PVC would be responsible to charge fee from the newly admitted students, if any. PVC will prepare the material to be taught to candidates in orientation classes. The participation of all students is not obligatory but will be on their discretion. However, VU will encourage its newly admitted students to attend the orientation program. This will include familiarization with the computers, use of Internet, VU website etc. 
  Newly admitted students will be supplied their admission package and their regular identification Numbers and passwords to login to the VU servers.
    
   Orientation for newly admitted students will be from March 24-25, 2006 at their respective PVCs with lab session should be at least 3 hours. However, the activities during orientation will be as under:
  a.       Teach new entrants Basic Computer Operations, which include
                                                                 i.      ON – OFF of the computer
                                                               ii.      Log in to the network
                                                              iii.      Organizing the Directories
                                                             iv.      Keyboard usage through some typing software
                                                               v.      Browser (WWW) usage (visit VU site, VULMS, etc.).
  b.       Logging to VULMS (Virtual University Learning Management System) 
        Server to get acquainted with the VULMS.  
  c.       For logging on to the VULMS (http://vulms.vu.edu.pk). 
  d.       The activities for LMS should involve:
                                                                 i.      Scanning various LMS features, such as Overview, Assignments, and Moderated Discussion Board etc.
                                                               ii.      Viewing of lecture notes.
    
   Please make accounts on your network server for each student separately to enable them to login from any machine on the network.  Allocate hard disk space of 10 MB on the server to each student.
   
    
   Regular classes of BS program, Master program, Diploma Course and Professional Short courses will commence from March 27, 2006.  
   
    
   PVCs are responsible for holding classes (six days a week) according to class schedule by using VCR/computer and TV.
