there is no moral high ground in these matters, this is where the money is because it can be used to blackmail somebody's lifelong efforts. It gets you money, so it is regarded highly. You should see the politics in the telecom standards body (international) - it never was about technology. I am not against Patents - but any reasonable person knows that they are now only being used for abuse. If you have ever written a patent - tech draft to final submission, you might also know that the final draft nowhere talks about the technology but about some nonsense which seldom can be understood by the inventor himself. It's all BS and politics. Patent trolls are highly esteemed in some circles.
