We've been talking about the benefits of WiFi based WANs on this list for about 14 years now. Then, it was a great idea. It is still a good idea, because you pay no license fee for the spectrum. But why not try to take advantage of the millions of WiFi access points already out there: most people would not mind sharing their connection when they aren't engaging in heavy use, if they were to get a discount on their bill for doing so.
