Elysium comes to mind, as a logical extension of continuing hoarding of technology at the cost of others, usually justified as the inability of the sweating masses to do good by themselves. The good news most recently was that of white supremacists and Nazis in the UK buying up a whole village in which to go off and live by themselves. No doubt some Jim Jones type will easily get control of it and they can come to a peaceful end rapidly.

However, the casualty in these weird schemes, whose proponents never seem to see the seminal contradictions, is the sharing of knowledge itself, in which the usage of technology is such an enabler. The most sinister sentinels of this dark scenario are those who profess the moral neutrality of economic power and those who trample on freedom in the name of national security.

To which must be added, often, a peculiarly Indian twist, I believe, social welfare, whose implementation today is being interlinked with the most pervasive tracking system of which even Orwell did not conceive. And this, in the face of incontrovertible evidence that the USA and UK collaborated in the theft of global cellphone credentials that makes interlinking identity to a phone incredibly imprudent. Some guardians of national security we have, who cannot even advise on the most basic personal protection of Indian citizens, and watch the evangelists further that interconnection to bank accounts and transactions, social welfare payments, accessing routine subsidies, travel and so on!
