Thanks for asking.

Bias is an error caused by systematically favoring one outcome over others.

In the above, definition, there are two parts that you must appreciate:

Error Part: Bias is an error. Bias is the difference between the actual an=
d the estimate.

Systemic Part : Bias is build into the system, algorithm, or the

thinking. You cannot always fix a bias that is built into a system.

There is another way to look at bias, besides the political bias in the way=
 data is

presented by FACEBOOK and GOOGLE that I

was alluding to my in email. The underlying algorithms in Facebook

and google return your searches or friendship suggestions

or recommendations (as on retailing websites) by looking at the data and

presupposing your liking or disliking, which inherently is a process with =
a bias.

It is this bias that gives you absurd results on these websites on several =
occasions.

In recent US elections, both Facebook and Google have been openly biased

in the favor of democratic candidate who lost this election.

Just as you can say NDTV (if this channel is still around) favors leftist/=
communist

viewpoint, or JNU is biased in favor of students

and faculty who can be regarded

as "anti-national" by those with different view point.

Sincerely,

Ratnendra Pandey

How do you define bias?

Is our own thinking unbiased?

This question has troubled me many times in past but haven't found the righ=
t answer. Since, your statement brings an interesting connection between th=
is list's purpose and my quest, it gives me a reason to raise this topic he=
