Hi folks,

It's that time again -- Excel in Hesston, KS has an IT opening. The
open position is in our IT operations group. This would be
primarily doing on-site support, but we have some remote offices and
traveling sales people so some component of remote phone support is also
involved.

We are a Linux, Windows, and Mac shop. We don't expect you to know more
than one of those OSs when you start, but you will get on-the-job
exposure to all three and will eventually support all three on the
desktop, and perhaps some limited Windows server administration. We are
constantly deploying new applications and technologies, so perhaps more
important than what you know now is how well you can pick up new things.

This is a full time job. Daily responsibilities include:

 * Monitoring our support ticket system (RT) and being available to
answer incoming support phone calls

 * Resolving any support requests that arrive from those areas, or
forwarding them on to the appropriate person.

 * General coverage areas include workstation hardware and software,
phone hardware, email, groupware, VPN access, printing (hardware &
software), and our ERP system. Expect to be trained (or thrown right in
with some wiki pages and valid promises to help) on this stuff.

 * Assist users in coming up with processes to streamline their job

 * General hardware support: PCs, networking, etc.

 * Documentation of IT procedures

 * Work on any long-term projects when time permits

 * Very occasional travel may be required

Finally, there is generally some room for you to follow your computing
interests in the job, assuming the general tasks of the position are
cared for well. If you have an interest in rewiring server rooms or
trying your hand at Linux shell scripting, for instance, you could
probably find room for those things as part of your job.
