HP printers are good, though.  Well, their good ones are :)

HP makes two classes of hardware.  Good, and bad.

Their good hardware is generally very good.  Their bad hardware is
generally very bad.

Their consumer-level stuff is usually bad.  (DeskJets, Pavilions, etc)

Their corperate-level stuff is usually pretty good.  (LaserJets,
business PCs, etc)

This is true of many companies.  The old saying "You get what you pay
for" is often true--you can't blame the computer manufacturer if your
cheap-as-dirt PC doesn't work.
