it seems faster then it did before, maybe its my perception , or maybe
its using a different driver (I hate setting up X)

When I installed it and ran Xconfigurator, it say the sis card, I could
have tried to set it up manually, but as setting up X is a pain, and I
figured I'd free some resources I decided to disable it instead.

I'm not sure about drivers I was using X 4.2.0, and there were no
problems with the how it worked, just kernel faults. And since they
happened at times before X started and when testing with memtest86
(which loaded of a floppy, and didn't start X of course) I figure its
some hardware compatablity problem. 

I think the best solution is to get a hammer and take this box in a
field somewhere, and order a new one from Penguin Computing, with
everything pre installed and working, so I can just do my job and not
muck around with getting the box to run all day, but as its not my
money, its not really my choice.
