Sound on laptop

I've got RH8 on my Dell Latitude CP M233XT but I get an error right as the desktop comes up: "Error while initializing sound driver. device /dev/dsp can't be opened (no such device). The sound server will continue using the null output device." Any ideas how to get sound working again? -- This is the [email protected] list.
