Entries in /var/log/messages

Around 4:00 AM, my /var/log/messages is updated with two lines as shown 
below.

Jun 14 04:07:57 bertha su(pam_unix)[30424]: session opened for user     
               news by (uid=0)
Jun 14 04:07:57 bertha su(pam_unix)[30424]: session closed for user news

Time varies from about 04:02 to 04:10.

Is someone getting thru my firewall, or is this a normal thing?  Any 
ideas?
