So, the new JDK/JRE (Java 8, for those who are somehow in the dark about this) will be released tomorrow, March 18. Is anyone excited? I’m kind of doing a little happy dance as I’ve been looking forward to this, in the way only a geek can get excited about such things, for years. I’m asking everyone to download and compile your first “Hello World!” app with the release version of Java 8 tomorrow. This is a huge update for us, huge: Check out those lambdas! Check out the virtual extension methods! Check out the additions to the Collections/Maps (Streams)! Check out the new Date/Time API (Joda will be one less dependency)! There is more, take a peek: http://openjdk.java.net/projects/jdk8/features I just want people to get excited about it so we can prepare to push our businesses and developers forward with the new, more enabling Java. —briggs
