Started as a technician at a research facility in May 1978 and none of the 
engineers were relying on slide rules. Many still had one and would show the 
basics if asked. Reminded me of a vernier caliper only way more complicated. 

One even had his hanging on the wall in a frame "Break glass encase of power 
failure"
