When I WAS employed on such a "team", it was in Engineering. The upside of that is you were in the kitchen, as it were, actually crafting the solution. At a couple of other places it was in "Marketing". The upside of that was that you were closer to the ultimate decision makers on products as a whole. Downsides to the Engineering group model that I found was the push back that would come up if something seemed to take longer or more work than there were engineers to do (or it was just a pain in the ass to do, period). Downside to the Marketing group model was the difficulty marketeers often had in distinguishing between desirability and usability. Personally, I liked the Engineering environment better but frankly, I think these lines are maybe fossils from a dying business model - one that isn't terribly conducive to problem solving, innovation, or profitability. I hope that is helpful to you. End of my 2 cents. l On Feb 3, 2011, at 3:21 PM, Armistead, Jamie wrote: > If you work at a company that has a User Experience team or > department, > where does it report?
