16:9 aspect ratio is not really a good screen layout for many tasks. If naively followed, screen elements such as titles and labels take too much space because they are stretched horizontally. When I am editing text on the such screens, I tend to set it up so I have two windows side by side (and the ribbon minimized!). A friend of mine recently encountered this problem when they redesigned a bank account and stock trading interface for a financial institution in Korea. They had alot of problems with the screen layout at the 16:9 ratio. He complained that if people want to watch TV, they should just connect their computers to their flat screens! I think it is a better idea at that resolution to try to design the screens to have components that can be shown side by side. Perhaps you could design 2 "panels" that are 7:8 each and display the panels side by side to get a 14:8 ratio?
