Mary, I came across a good book - Website Re-design 2.0
http://www.web-redesign.com/ It goes into details about general redesign
practices and has some really good insights.

My last project was redesigning a large application suite (over 7 very
extensive products.) It really takes a different type of mindset to do a
redesign of large-scale web property. If you want, I can help you detailing
some of the processes.
