hi,

We are a small software company in Los Altos. We developed the Samsung
AnyZoom screen magnifier for
their SPH-P9000 and SPH-P9200 UMPC (Ultra Mobile PC). The devices have
5 inch screen that cause
eyestrain even for people with good vision. You can see videos and
blog entries about the devices on the web.
The SPH-P9000 went on the market in Korea in April and appears in
Korea Telecomms ads for WiMax service
and the SPH-P9200 will be on the market in Korea soon.

We are considering adapting our technology for screen magnifiers that
specifically aim to help visually impaired
users and anyone who has trouble reading small text. I am 44 and
recently discovered how that feels! We are in the
very early stages of product planning and I was hoping to speak with
people who have experience helping users with
visual impairments or helping organizations that help such people.

So far, we have benchmarked some of the leading screen magnifiers
(Dolphin Systems and Ai Squared products)
which have very sophisticated features. We think we should target a
more general audience who need less features but
could benefit from a streamlined interaction design. That seems to be
the niche that the leaders are not addressing.
But that is just our initial brainstorm and we are ready to listen and learn.

So if you have helped visually impaired people use computers, or just
over 45 people who just need reading glasses
from time to time, please contact me. If you know someone who is
involved with such work, referrals are welcome as well!

Thanks!
Hanhwe Kim
