A few starter questions

Hi there,

As a new member to the list, I apologize in advance if this question  
has been asked before.

I'm primarily a back-end Java web developer and as such do not have  
much experience with developing client-side code. Recently though,  
I've been working more and more on the client side with  
JavaScript ,CSS and DHTML. I'm enjoying the challenges of developing  
in the browser (IE 6 cough cough), but I find myself from time to time  
struggling with best practices when it comes to human computer  
interaction and interaction design. I guess I have a few questions for  
the list:

1. Where do you recommend I start when it comes to learning best  
practices for HCI on the web. A quick web search for books recommends  
these two:

Have members of the list read these books and if so, what did you  
think of them? Would you recommend any other books apart from these two?

2. Helpful HCI online resources - could you recommend some that you  
find useful?

3. I took some HCI modules while I was in college and enjoyed them. In  
terms of formal education for HCI topics in the bay area, what courses  
would you recommend me take a look at (if any)?
