I like the idea of a CMS-driven site map, as a robot-friendly, 
comprehensive index of all documents in the site.  As long as the 
site map is there, the designer or architect has more freedom to 
design useful navigation for humans.

My favorite example is Quirksmode, which generates the navigation dynamically:

There are things I'd do differently from Quirksmode, but I really 
like the idea of separating the robot use cases from the human use cases.
