For clarity, AT&T measures everything (including themselves) on
metrics, etc. They have X amount of dollars specified each fiscal year
for sponsoring organizations etc, and are always looking for good
opportunities to do so. This gives them tax write offs, and can use
their participation as good PR/advertisement for the company. This is
why it is a win-win situation. A smaller company might have more
trouble justifying the cost of sponsorship.

For clarity on my reason for saying this, it's only to explain why
AT&T would host and sponsor our meetings. I'm not using this as PR to
get you guys to meet there. As I've said before, I really don't care
where we meet, and do believe it would make a lot of sense to meet at
a different place each time.

As has been stated, no illegal activities which means the ID check should not be an issue for most and I have also heard of AT&T sponsoring such events.
