I dig the ReadyNAS units, primarily because they are x86 appliances running
linux with a quite reliable RAID that you can SSH into the unit as root and
do whatever your heart desires.

Out of the box its a fantastic NAS but the extendibility (through both
easy-to-install addons and available-from-the-manufacturer root SSH enabler)
is awesome icing on the cake.
