I use OpenLDAP to authenticate users, web applications and source code
archives on the mousetech.com domain. Much simpler than setting up
accounts on per-machine or per-application basis.

It's not really that hard, and O'Reilly has a decent book on it. The
prototype config files are also well-commented - at least in the Red Hat
distros.

Probably the thing that confused me the most was that there are 2
separate sets of LDAP config files in separate /etc directories (again,
this is Red Hat - haven't looked at Debian/Ubuntu). One is for the
machine in its role as an LDAP client, the other if it's an OpenLDAP
server.
