Gimana konfigurasi MySQL

Hallo Balinuxer, aku ada masalah dengan konfigurasi MySQL 
di Slackware 10.2 dgn kernel 2.4.31. MySQL daemon 
(rc.mysql) aku aktifin, jd pd saat booting MySQL daemonnya 
uda jalan.
Perintah "mysql_install_db" juga udah tak eksekusi 
sehingga terbentuk 2 database, yaitu database "test" dan 
"mysql". Tapi ketika aku masuk ke console utk akses ke 
MySQL dgn ngetest mysqlnya dulu ternyata ga bisa. Pesan2 
errornya seperti ini :

root@inot:~# Starting mysqld daemon with databases from 
/var/lib/mysql

root@inot:~# mysql

Lalu ketika aku mo masuk ke "MySQL" ada error message 
seperti ini :

root@inot:~# mysql -u root -p
Enter password:
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server 
through socket '/var/run/mysql/mysql.sock' (111)
root@inot:~#
********************************************

password rootnya pake default (kosong). Nah, gimana cara 
konfigurasinya  agar aku bisa pake MySQLnya ??? Mohon 
pencerahannya......Thx b4 !!!
