BeiMac & BeiPod October 2005 meeting - iPod penguins, anyone?

The Beijing Macintosh User Group (BeiMac) will launch the Beijing  
iPod User Group (BeiPod) at BeiMac's October 15, 2005 meeting. The  
meeting takes place on Saturday, October 15, 2005, from 17:00 to  
20:30 (Beijing time). The venue, which features wireless Internet  
access and a spacier environment, will be the John Bull Pub at 44  
Guanghua Road, Chaoyang District, Beijing. The meeting will also  
feature an evening meal.

The Beijing iPod User Group will be the first user group in China  
focusing mainly on the iPod. David Feng, founder and President of the  
Beijing Macintosh User Group, explains that with more and more people  
now aware of the iPod, there comes a need to create an iPod user group.

"What we've seen recently in Chinese cities is this huge iPod  
awareness campaign, thanks to Apple China's iPod ads. If we take  
Beijing as an example, these iPod ads have seeped into the Beijing  
Metro in November 2003, then onto the Airport Expressway in 2004, and  
now there are iPod ads on main city roads, including the 3rd Ring  
Road, and there are even roaming iPod ads -- in the form of iPod ads  
on buses. Thanks to this publicity campaign, more and more people now  
know that "iPod" exists. This is where we step in."

"BeiPod will be a place where people who have heard about iPods can  
come and discover what an iPod is, and will also be a place where  
iPod users, be they Mac users or Windows people, and come in and  
share their experience, so it's kind of like a home for iPod people."

BeiPod will be a part of the Beijing Macintosh Union, to which BeiMac  
is also a member. Groups in the BeiMac Union get access to common  
resources, including a resource library featuring around 200  
magazines and 200 books in six languages. Groups in the BeiMac Union  
will also share a common membership identity card -- the BeiMacPass.

Contents of the meeting will focus on the iPod. In particular, the  
following are planned:

1. Review of iPod History - from the first 5 GB iPod to the nano
2. iPod tips and tricks
3. iTunes and iPod
4. A display which will feature as many iPods as possible
5. Foundation of the Beijing iPod User Group
6. Introduction to some of the newest books at the BeiMac Library.

The meeting is open for everyone. BeiMac's October 2005 meeting is  
not only target at Mac users and iPod owners, but also at Windows  
people and Linux people, as well as people who have heard about the  
iPod but have never seen one.

Being part of China's first iPod user group has something in it that  
cannot be expressed; a sense of pride, a sense of history, but most  
of all, a sense of community.

Applications for membership inside all groups of the BeiMac Union,  
including BeiPod, can be processed on site.

The meeting that follows this meeting will be on November 19, 2005.
