I think I am lost. I was under impression that WAPI is a standard along
with a backing law, that prohibits import, manufacturing and sales
of devices that do not comply with the standard.

Personally I doubt that this standard+law will come into force (I am under
impression that it originally was supposed to in Dec) and even if it does
there will be much fuss about it, WTO dispute (given the fact that the
tech specs are disclosed only to several Chinese companies) etc. and it
hardly will be enforced in practice. So this is what I meant writting

think that my understanding of WAPI is erroneous. So what is WAPI
afterall?
