For dropping connections, maybe it is interference.  Try changing
channels.

Remember many devices use the same unregualted radio frequency (cordless
radios - your baoan's walkie talkie, etc).

Try doing a search for APRadar for linux.  It is cool.

But it only works with drivers that ship with full iwconfig support.
