Matteo, If the server is set up Ok it must be in the XP end of things. Can you see one XP box from the other? If you have not tried it, "share" something on one XP and see of you can see it from the other. I used fixed IP so I am not sure how DHCP works in this but it presumably works on the name of the server and the directory. If you have been setting up as \\localhost\share - it will not work for the reasons that Ben outlined. I presume that you have tried setting it up as a network drive? My network places > right click >map network drive > browse etc and At 06:29 PM 10/03/2004 +0800, you wrote: >if i log into the samba server from a window box using explorer >file://192.168.0.105 >i got a log in box >and samba username and password set up on the server are working fine > >if instead of the ip number I use the server hostname "localhost" I get error >if I use network neighborhood also get error > >I use dhcp in my network > > >from mac osx no problem from network interface and also to print on the 2 >shared printers > >from the browser if I use the ip number to reach the server is not a >problem but if I use >"localhost" is not reachable > >guys thanks a lot, you are really cooperative!! > > > >Matteo, I will send the samba config file in the next mail > >ciao > >On Mar 10, 2004, at 5:41 PM, Graham Brown wrote: > >>Matteo, >> >>It seems to me that it is probably something basic in the permissions: >> >>You can open smb.conf with vi.
