Dear Matteo, In my experience, the following applies to mail: The Post Office will not accept local mail not addressed in Chinese. Overseas mail with a pinyin address is translated at the PO into characters by "someone". This is more likely to work where it more commonly occurs - ie business areas, but it can work elsewhere too. We actually receive quite a bit of "pinyin" overseas mail at our home address without problems so success is not just confined to a business address.
