As an old accounting adage goes.... are we dealing a conformity issue or
a design issue.....

I would say conformity from my personal experiences.  Not that you
aren't a good engineer Chris.  But before we go blaming things - it is
good to get some facts and do research.

In the case of my server slow down, I was sure it was bad cable and
faulty software setup first - till I woke up and realised that one mouse
click away was my cute and handy hourly, minute, month, day and year
aggregate stats graphs of everything on the server....

Please see attached a copy of the sort of damage a few useless sys
admins with windows servers in a data centre can inflict on innocents
like me.
