What you read is true, I noticed the date of the news is Feb 27th... But
wonder which year they had put it.

MII has been proposing chinese domain for several years, and it was (at
least) available since 2004. because of the difference of single byte and 2
bytes conversion problem between western character set and chinese character
set, the dot in web address suppose to be converted to 2 bytes character
too.

This is irrelvant to OS though. You use the domain name the same way as you
do on windows - just need to install chinese language support and input
method.

I consider the pomotion of Chinese domain in China is a failure so far. MII
was trying to do something like the proposal of "xxx" domain, to control
what user could or not to see by setting rules - but until all chinese
websites are forced to use the Chinese domain, they still reamain as an
unpopular domain option to domain registers.

My explaination might not be quite accurate, I'd appreciate if anyone would
make the story more complete and error-free.

Amy
