Even that persons win2000 skilss would be BAD!

The education system here is one of, event-action.

If have problem A, do process X to fix.

They often do not understand WHAT caused problem A or indeed why process
X will fix it.

Rope learning.

I see this even on the rugby field.  When the game deviates 1% from the
rope learned expectation of game play - their entire game plan falls
apart in bewilderment.

As you mentioned in a meeting before Simon and you hit the nail on the
head.  Unless you understand UNIX - you do not understand computers.

Simple.

Many people really do not understand the fundamentals.  Windows hides
that.  So you learn windows but not computers.

If you learn UNIX you learn computers.

I am always met by blank stares from people who claim to be computer
experts but do not know anything about say "tree theory", "inductive
recursion" or even "two's compliment arithmetic".  Or people who claim
to know databases but do not know what normalisation is or indeed
relational algebra or what is referential integrity!

Read this link about the RHCE which Glyn and I have both done.  Not to
say that certification is god.  But some certifications place more
emphasis on the "Why and how" as opposed to the "Process", and that is
why they are highly regarded.

Same could be said for some university degrees (ANU vs UC).
