The link below contains a link to a news story about a stupid and depressing move my Lenovo. I guess this type of thing has been ongoing for a while now. Furthermore, it may not be enough to overwrite the vendor supplied OS on computers but you may have to re-install firmware for all the internal components and hope that the vendor isn't providing pre-hacked firmware in order to start with a basic secure system.
