I have been using Adobe Digital Editions which installs in wine. That may help to solve the issue with the DRM files....assuming that the file itself is not corrupt. As well, you can use calibre to convert your amazon ebooks to epub (maybe others) after you have downloaded them t your computer through the the kindle software, whihc also runs under wine.
