I share concerns about Linux becoming more "Microsoft-y" and "Corporate-y" and less "Linux-y". I was concerned with Microsoft's take over of GitHub and their overwhelming participation in the Open Source Foundation, not to mention IBM's purchase of Red Hat. I worry a lot about Linux these days with so many developers working for and paid by major corporations. These corporations are going to expect to control Linux, I believe. "He who pays the piper calls the tune". I also was alarmed to hear that major Linux conferences are costing from $1200 to $1800 per person. Only corporate developers are going to be able to go to these conferences. Attending the conference and talks is totally free and they always have a great group of presenters. I’ve attended the past few years and really enjoyed it. The first year I drove out and last year I flew in to Abbotsford, B.C., rented a car and made the 30 minute journey south to Bellingham. Attached is a link to their conference site if anyone is interested: https://www.linuxfestnorthwest.org/conferences/2019 *From: *clug-talk <[email protected]> on behalf of Greg King <[email protected]> *Reply-To: *CLUG General <[email protected]> *Date: *Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 2:10 AM *To: *"[email protected]" <[email protected]>, "[email protected]" <[email protected]> *Subject: *[clug-talk] Why Linux sucks I really enjoyed this Linux fest NW talk about the current status of Linux and open source. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVHcdgrqbHE Enjoy!
