i was going to add krusader and mc to the list. krusader being a gui and supports sftp , mc (midnight commander ) is a tui application.

you need ssh server installed, at least on the system you will be ssh-ing into, i think the package will be called openssh-server , usually does not install by default on Ubuntu based systems, you need to check.
Also, once you installed sshd, you need to have GOOD passwords :-)
otherwise, use a usb drive, they are good, cheap, large enough and reliable these days.
