Re: Gentoo: "I'm not dead yet!"

I have yet to find a distribution I love as much as gentoo.  The
flexibility it has can't be found in any other system including arch
or any other Linux I've tried.

That being said, I went from all gentoo, desktop, servers, laptop
(trust, getting a proper gentoo install on a laptop wasn't fun); to
currently having 0 installs of gentoo.  They've been incredibly
scatter brained in the past 6mo-year to the point where it's not
gentoo breaks.. it just straight out breaks.

Last time I looked at this, the Dev and board were acting like spoiled
school brats having hissy fits and power trips.  I really do hope they
do get their act together and put something solid.  It's one of the
few distributions where I've ran multliple versions of gcc, java, and
php without any problems.  Or have the ability to install 3-5
different versions of package instead of just one.

I'm not sure why gentoo is trying to do a "release" cycle.  Gentoo
hasn't really had releases to speak of.. ever.

They had new live cds.. but big deal.  you were always up to date by
doing your emerge -uDN world  (apt-get dist-upgrade equivalent).  I'm
not sure why they're trying to make releases to speak of.

Either ways... currently there is a void in the community that hasn't
been filled.  The folks that loved/used gentoo the hard core elitist
annoying bastards that looked down upon those mere Ubuntu users.
*cough*  .. I mean.. those guys that love editing config files, and
scripting and get annoyed at the mention of a GUI when trying to solve
a problem on linux.  They really don't have a decent distro targeted
at that audience.

That being said.. I'll give gentoo another go and see.. maybe they
made some improvements, worth having another look at.
