I'm also on the mailing list, but never ended up going to any meetings
(because there weren't any?).

Despite my poor attendance, I think this sort of group is important,
whether or not it is need of rebranding. I would point to my tinkering
with GNU/Linux as the reason that I have my position as a systems
engineer in Information Services (psst, we have open positions ;) ).

I think that the group could probably use some more publicity. I doubt
that it's necessarily a lack of interest from CDM students, but more a
lack of exposure. I joined my freshman year, but never heard about any
events, and so I forgot it was a group.

If we are in need of inspiration, the Chicago Linux User's Group
<https://chicagolug.org/> might be a good place. They are pretty
active, and also serve as a great place to meet people in the tech
industry (e.g. Red Hat, GNOME Project, Canonical, etc).
