Hah.  I would have come to the opposite conclusion.  I've been running
Linux as my primary desktop for about 15 years now and it is still a
pretty lonely club compared to the Windows and OS X tribes.

Juding by the class I just had last night, granted a sample of under 10
students, all in-class students were using Microsoft Windows as their
primary desktop OS.  Even less scientific a measure, but one I think
would bear out if measured, I see very few Linux screens at any of the
networking/security conferences I frequent and those are stacked with
geeks.  Although, it might be worth pointing out that the Macbook
numbers seem to be a lot higher there than is reflected in the general
population.

If you care about Linux deployment, maybe there is some redemption in
knowing Android has done exceptionally well.  ...and that market might
be the one that matters most now-a-days.
