If you're running Ubuntu, launching the 'gnome-disks' app will show you all the hard drives currently connected (just type "disk" or "partition" or similar into the Unity dash and it will show up). The usual warning applies though: accidentally repartitioning the wrong disk will have dire consequences! If it doesn't show up there, use something like pastebin.ubuntu.com to show us the contents of /var/log/dmesg, which may have more information.
