There's also a handy Python script called youtube-dl:
http://rg3.github.io/youtube-dl/
To grab a video in HD, use:
./youtube-dl -tf 22 <youtube-url>
22 is the format ID to be requested. For SD videos, use 18 instead. It
also seems to work for vimeo and a couple of other popular sites.
