Just because it's trivial to you, doesn't mean it's trivial for
everyone. There's probably a set of people for whom both of these are
considered quite serious.

You can tell your computer to check weekly so you get nagged less, and
also make sure you have backports disabled (otherwise you'll get all
manner of things.)

As for the rebooting, I just click "Later" and it'll be updated when I
next restart. This is only prompted when necessary though, there's a
small set of things that need it, primarily the kernel and dbus: things
that are integral to the system as a whole, so it'd be very hard to
reliably restart them on a running system.

So really, your options are:
* Automatically install the updates. They virtually never break things,
in my experience.
* Get all updates immediately. Keep up to date, and ignore the annoyance
of having to click a couple of buttons once every few days, and
rebooting once a week or so.
* Get all updates immediately, but don't reboot. Keep up to date, and

* Get your updates weekly. Less annoying.
* Don't get updates. Leave yourself vulnerable.

It's a fact of life that software is going to need updating. It would be
totally irresponsible of Ubuntu to not send them through because you
find it fatiguing. As it is, it's only security and significant bugfixes
coming through (unless you're on backports.)
