This sounds like you have backports enabled. To check, run
'software-properties-gtk' and look in the 'Updates' tab. The
'trusty-backports' checkbox should be unchecked if you don't want backports
for trusty.

Backports are a nice way to get software updates on a stable base, but if
you object to software updates, then it's probably not for you.


Getting new packages into an already released distribution is *hard*
(outside of backports, which exists for this reason). There are all sorts
of checks and balances. We (Ubuntu developers) don't get permissions to
upload whatever we like once it gets released. Documentation fixes and
version number bumps are unlikely to land (although there are cases where
they're allowed in for good reason, for example, perhaps the documentation
contains examples that are themselves security vulnerabilities - you'd be
surprised how many things can affect the security of a system).
