Until 2015 it was, like crap, at worst vulgarity whose shock value had
faded long ago among people engaged in 21st century life...

[Quick Mildred, the smelling salts! Mama heard a Word!|

...when used as a figure of speech; literally it was the plain vernacular
word for a bodily waste product usually euphemised/infantilised as number
twos, poos, big jobbies, business (did his business behind a bush) or the
more clinical faeces. The use of faeces has increased along with the use
of correct terminology for other, previously avoided "rude" reality -
penis, instead of wee-wee etc for children right from the moment they begin
to use language.

Blasphemy is another thing altogether, being the use of the (a) deity's
name in a cursing or grossly disrespectful way, e.g.
"Pasta-friggin'-farians are merchant bankers and the Flying Spaghetti
Monster sucks dick" a sentence combining censorship substitute for what's
coyly referred to as the f-word, rhyming slang again avoiding "rude" word,
blasphemy and vulgarity.
