How can I tell? There are SATA ports on my mother board. But is their
more than one version of SATA? (I assume so as the drives I am looking
at say "SATA III")

I have googled my mother board but the Intel page just says it has SATA.

There are 6 such ports on the board, one in use for the current drive
and one connected to a port on the back pane.
