file to specified directory

0k so i have a file that is residing in Desktop. it needs to be untarred to Src directory! 
Is this the way to implement it?

#cd ~/Desktop
#tar -xvzf file.tar.gz -C /usr/src
#cd file
   ./configure
   sudo make install


reg/linux/usr/#453274 /reg/ubuntu/usr/#17340
