In my experience using VGA can lead to washed out colours at higher
resolutions. Also, some Windows XP graphics drivers do not support
particular resolutions (e.g. my old laptop with some form of Intel
intergrated graphics does not like widescreen resolutions unless I
install a hacked driver).

If you PC has an AGP or PCI-E slot graphics cards to fit these can be
had fairly cheaply, you can also get ones which use a normal PCI slot
but they are rarer and hence more pricey. Chris can probably help you
out here if you want to do this.
