It took just a few minutes with the 'Hoary Hedgehog' live CD to be impressed. It runs the 2.6.10 kernel by default. GNOME 2.9 is the desktop (since it's the beta of 'Hoary Hedgehog', due for April release, I guess they're also getting set for GNOME 2.10.) AFAIK, they don't seem to be as picky about non-free packages as Debian, offering nvidia modules right away. Ubuntu is *firmly* in the GNOME camp. They offer KDE in their repositories, but not in the main ones, and they tell you that packages in the 'universe' or 'multiverse' repositories will NOT be supported by Ubuntu. Personally, I'm looking at Hoary. The install is 100% Ubuntu-based, while the Warty install is mostly derived from Knoppix. Still, I want to know what advantages there are to switching if I'm going to be running the same apps there as I am in Sid. -- Verizon has decided that most Europeans are spammers.
