Design Ideas & Direction

What I like about the design is the photo can be replaced easily,
whether this a seasonal change or for special events it can be changed
quickly by anyone with Gimp.

I will also make one that has been made for the web banner, one for
normal printed flyers and one very large one for use on other things
like mugs or for use on cd labels the larger one will be made in and
around 300 dpi and about 10 inches across so that would be a 3,000 pixel
wide image. Big, but for it to be used on large things it will need to
be big. More then likely it will be smaller then that but that is large
enough to be very useable.

You might be thinking, "Why not just make one file and users can scale
it down to fit what they need?". Well I am glad you asked that.

The answer is simply it would look very fuzzy and would not read well as
a design being scaled to less then 1/10 it size. So I will make 3 preset
ones to cover most every need we will have. If the need should arise I
can make another larger or slightly diffrent version to fit the need.

Pink Square:
I wanted the pink square to show something linux. I know the space is
small and I will up load a version of the logo with out the square in
it. I don't care for the negitive space in the piece and so I have left
the square there for the time being.

But what to put in the square that is universally says LINUX. Tux, well
he is in the design already and putting him in again will be redundant.
I have really drawn a blank on this one.

Photos:
I had planned to use two photos in the text one that was for MOR that
was more about Morgantown and one for LUG which would have been more
about linux. Freesource pointed me to (I think was Dave Smiths) web site
that had some pictures. They are good photos but they did not easy read
as Morgantown.

What I need is a photo that convaies Morgantown. This could be a shot of
the downtown skyline , a shot of the WVU campus , etcetcetc. That was my
take if you have ideas of what might look better in the text please feel
free to let me know. I dropped using the two images one for each word
for the time as it was hard enough to find a picture of Morgantown that
I could use. I am kinda in a bind in that I can't make a trip to
Morgantown to snap some pictures. I have to rely on others to help me
with that.

What I need if you have a good picture. I need a clean high resolution
scan of it or if you don't mind making a dup of it you can mail me the
photo, slide , or what not and I can handle the rest. A image that is
640X480 will not be much help yes I can use it for the web banner but if
we want to use it on anything else at a larger then small size I will
need a higher res photo. If the logo will be used on other things we
have to take into account how big the logo will be on those things.

Tag Line:
Morgantown Linux user group, I think it is a little redundant. What are
your thoughts. Is there something better as a tag line or is what is
there fine.

So once those are taken care of I will make the finial Gimp file
available to all who want it.
